General Safety (PYP011) 

Course Catalog Description:

This course will address issues with the way to implement fundamental safety policies and measures. 

Through this course, students will learn and understand the following: Safety Culture,  Key Health Issues,  Responsibility for Managing Safety,  Concept of Risk,  Safety and the Human Factor,  Basics of Safety and Risk Management,  Security of Hazardous Materials

Course Objectives:

  1. To educate the students on the fundamental concepts related to general and industrial safety and management
  2. To develop an understanding of safety protocols in engineering labs
  3. To equip the students with the skills to solve basic safety issues and risk management using analytical approaches
Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Identify the fundamentals of personnel and industrial safety
  2. Describe the issues in the safety culture
  3. Discuss the key health issues
  4. Understand the concept of risk
  5. Analyze the basic safety issues and risk management
  6. Promote safety culture at the community level
  7. Autonomously and professionally manage tasks and activities related to safety and emergency

Required Material:

  • Lab Manual prepared by the department
  • Lectures / Labs for the course will be conducted face-to-face on campus. For backup, Blackboard Collaborate Ultra or MS Teams will be used
