Course Description
This intermediate language course, pitched at B1+ CEFR level, aims to develop students’ skills as independent language users. Students starting this course should already be able to express themselves comprehensibly on a fairly wide range of topics and understand the main points of input on topics that they have a degree of familiarity with. This course seeks to build on these existing abilities by increasing the complexity and detail of the material that students are able to produce and comprehend accurately. In doing so, it is hoped that students will be prepared for the B2 level language learning that is to come in the 03 and 04 courses.

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Understand the main points of an extended conversation or discussion on a familiar topic
- Answer simple and complex detail questions
- Make inferences based on what they have heard
- Effectively employ appropriate listening strategies

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Produce simple, compound, and complex sentences
- Write at a B1 level or higher, which will be reflected in their grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics
- Link a series of shorter discrete elements into a linear sequence with cohesion and coherence.
- Produce sentences using present and past tense while demonstrating a knowledge of irregular verbs
- Produce a basic narrative paragraph (minimum 70 words) using a range of sequencing words, and time order expressions/phrases of duration
- Produce a basic paragraph (minimum 70 words) that describes a graph

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Express their own ideas and opinions with a fairly high degree of fluency and complexity
- Express themselves using a wide range of vocabulary
- Demonstrate an ability to use a variety of grammatical structures in conversation
- Initiate and maintain a 5-minute conversation with a native speaker
