FACTORIZATION STAR CONTEST (SEASON 12)

Introduction
The Factorization Star Contest was held, focusing on the essential skill of factoring polynomials. By definition, this process involves rewriting a polynomial as a product of irreducible factors, with the fundamental theorem of algebra linking the coefficients to their roots. While expanding a polynomial is a straightforward task, factorization demands creativity and problem-solving skills. The contest aimed to deepen students' understanding of mathematical concepts and enhance their overall math skills, emphasizing the importance of factorization in both academic and everyday applications.

Objectives
The contest aimed to:

  • Enhance student math skills.
  • Increase understanding of mathematical concepts.
  • Improve comprehension of factoring techniques.
  • Instill a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Promote mathematical talent.
  • Discover gifted PYP math students.
  • Encourage and motivate talented individuals.

Contest Overview
The contest was organized in two competitive stages:

  • Stage 1: Preliminary Round

    • Date: Sunday, 19 October 2025
    • Participants: Out of 300 registered students, 169 actively participated.
    • Outcome: The top 8 performing students advanced to the final stage.
  • Stage 2: Final Round

    • Date: Wednesday, 19 November 2025
    • Format: A challenging knockout competition among the top 8 students from the preliminary round.
    • Outcome: The finalists showcased their exceptional mastery of factorization techniques as they competed rigorously for the top three ranks.

Overall, the Factorization Star Contest successfully highlighted the mathematical prowess of its participants and fostered a love for mathematics among students.
